Biography

Jacob Reitan joined Reitan Law Office in 2014.  Jacob completed his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University in 2004, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science and communication studies.   After Northwestern, Jacob received a Presidential Scholarship to attend Harvard Divinity School where he received a Masters in Theological Studies.  Jacob went to law school at the University of Minnesota where he graduated magna cum laude.  While in law school, Jacob clerked for the Carver County Attorney and the Hennepin County Attorney.

Prior to starting his legal career, Jacob worked as an advocate for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.  As a part of this work, Jacob founded the Equality Ride and the Right to Serve Campaign.  In 2006, Jacob was invited by the White House to be with President Obama when he signed the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law.   In 2012, Governor Dayton named Jacob to the Governor’s Task Force on the Prevention of School Bullying.   For his advocacy Jacob has been awarded the Brian Coyle Leadership Award from the Human Rights Campaign, and he has been named one of the people of the year by Advocate Magazine and Lavender Magazine. 

At Reitan Law Office, Jacob joins his brother and his father fighting for the rights of the injured and disabled.
